Playing poker tournaments as a bankroll strategy |

Since there have been a lot of new poker shows on television over the last couple of years that hi-light cash game action - and BIG action at that, a lot of players are getting more interested in playing no-limit holdem cash games. And you know what? That is great! There is surely money to be made in these games, but for new players, I still think that playing low buy-in poker tournaments is the way to go, especially for building a bankroll.
What kind of tournaments? Well the big field multi-table tournaments have a slimmer chance of cashing, although it is not tough to do. Simply by playing super tight, you can expect to cash 15% of the time at a minimum. However, that is more or less for training and getting some experience. Your cash will come in them, but to make a final table may be too high an expectation. So instead, I would add more multi-table sit and go tournaments to your selection - anywhere from 27 players to 180 players. These types of tournament play all day long and seem to invite the internet's worst poker players. In these tournament you WILL make the final table and you WILL cash big. If i was just starting out I would play these all day long. Have a look at this video about playing poker tournament strategy and see if you agree: |
